Reversible Purses

If you've been wondering about my purses, I'll share a little bit of the journey :)

I got the pattern here, at BurdaStyle (open source sewing--such a great idea!).  The pattern didn't come with instructions and my versatility-at-all-costs brain arranged the pattern pieces to be reversible.  What's more amazing, for me, is the fact that I printed the pattern, cut out the pieces and material, and sewed it all up in one night.  I've never finished a sewing project--that looked good--in one night.  At least, not since that first Animaniacs pillow case that was my first project, with Momma looking over my shoulder.

In any case, it was awesome. I had to do more.  So I made one for my best friend and asked permission of the creator if I could sell it.  The rest is history.

The original size purse is about 10" at the opening, and widens to about 12".  The pleats seem to add invisible volume to the inside of the purse and I can fit a surprising amount of useful (and some not-so-useful) things in my purse.

My mother-in-law asked me to make purses for her daughters for Christmas last year, including the two youngest girls (3 and 5 years old).  I decided to shrink the pattern a bit to fit their sweet petite-ness.  Presenting the mini (next to the original size):

The mini (which is just about perfect for a dainty but functional evening bag!) is about 7" at the top, widening to about 8" in the middle.  Again--it holds quite a lot for an evening purse.

Pockets on all purses are customizable--just let me know what you want.

Still, I had other ideas swimming around...  I had been wondering if I could make a purse that reverses to three different fabrics.  And after much deliberation and sketching and putting pieces together in my head, I did it :) And I made the pattern larger, to make room for all that extra material. A jumbo! Opening is about 13", widest part 14".

Here are all three sizes next to each other for comparison.

Be sure to check out these pictures, to see some of the custom purses I've made (at the end of the album).

All two-in-one purses come with button hole on the back to close the purse.
